No Country for Old Men

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy is a violent adventure story set in 1980s America around the Texas Mexico border. In the desert Llewelyn Moss comes across a drug deal gone wrong and scoops $2 million dollars from among the bodies. Hit man Anton Chigurh is sent recover the money and he kills whoever gets in his way. Sheriff Ed Tom Bell investigates the drug deal and attempts to protect Moss and his wife.

Thematically, the novel is about good versus evil, as well as the notion that chance and the decisions humans make can have a profound effect on the future. Though one may be quick to dismiss the violence as endemic in the modern world, McCarthy emphasizes that it has always been there.
